February In the month of February, students learned social studies standards through our LTA Post Office and Black History Month Activities. We talked about and compared the achievements of people like MLK Jr. and Rosa Parks. We compared and contrasted what life was like long ago and what life is like today. In ELA, students practiced identifying key points in stories, comparing familiar texts, and identifying a text as telling a story as we read “A Man Named Dr. King” and “The Peacemaker”. Our sight words this month were look, on, here, and said. We practiced segmenting and blending sounds in words as we built CVC words from the ub, ug, ox, and ot. In writing, students practiced writing about simple facts, such as, what color Bogie the dog is and what instruments they have in music class. In math, students continued to work on number identification, composing, and decomposing. Students worked hard to solve addition problems using ducks, zoo animals, and other manipulatives.
